Brayden Abo

I am a CS student at Stevens Institute of Technology, with a concentration in Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence. I also work within the Stevens Health + AI Lab, working on meal detection via images!

Outside of tech, I really enjoy surfing (I ride a 6'11" midlength), doing triathlons (I did Ironman 70.3 NC, and am training for a full Ironman), and cooking!

Experience

Walmart

Walmart Global Tech — Software Engineer Intern

June 2026 – August 2026

Sunnyvale, CA

  • Develop batching and route-optimization services in a Java microservices platform processing 3.5M orders/day
  • Extended Last Mile Delivery Optimization solver to handle new delivery constraints, reducing order cancellations and missing delivery items, avoiding $23M in GMV loss.
  • Designed LMD batch assignment algorithms to support Vision Center orders with unique fulfillment constraints, to integrate a new delivery vertical and enable <3 hour lens delivery.
Stevens Institute of Technology

Stevens Institute of Technology, Health + AI Lab — Undergraduate Researcher

September 2025 – Present

Hoboken, NJ

  • Improved meal ingredient recognition F1-score by 9% by building a local VLM pipeline (Qwen2.5-VL, Llama3.2) enabling zero-shot deconstruction of complex, multi-layered food items for Plato, a multimodal nutrition chatbot.
  • Designed a multimodal mapping system that decomposes meal images into atomic ingredients and groups them under standardized food entities, enabling structured nutritional analysis at scale.
  • Architected a full-stack web application to deploy Plato as a research tool for external institutions, handling multimodal input (image + text), user session management, and nutritional data output.
Verizon

Verizon — Software Engineer Intern

June 2025 – August 2025

Basking Ridge, NJ

  • Developed a GraphRAG pipeline to enhance LLM query performance on Verizon's network database, achieving a 70-80% reduction in query time.
  • Integrated Model Context Protocol (MCP) into an AI-agent framework, enabling standardized, secure access for agents to diverse data sources and tools.
  • Built an AI-agent framework on a structured knowledge graph with Python and Llama3 to help network engineers diagnose topology intermittencies and speed up network decommissioning projects

Projects

The Micromouse robot on the competition floor

Micromouse — Autonomous Pathfinding Robot

(Poster)

C++, Python, Arduino

A fully autonomous maze-solving robot for the IEEE Micromouse competition — it explores a randomized 16×16 grid to find the shortest path to the center, then re-runs that route faster each lap.

Hermes architecture: GRPO training loop over an LLM agent with STM and LTM tool calls

Unified LTSM Memory Management for LLMs

(Github)(Paper)

Python, PyTorch, HuggingFace

Hermes, an agentic memory framework that teaches an LLM to manage its own long-term memory as tool calls — keeping far less in active context than a standard retrieval setup while still answering multi-hop questions.

Trail detail page with map and current conditions

NJ Trail Monitor

(Github)

Node.js, Express, MongoDB

A web app for tracking hiking trails across New Jersey — trail information, current conditions, and community-reported updates in one place.

GTO range grid from the poker solver

GTO Poker Solver

Python

A poker solver that builds spots and solves hands against game-theory-optimal strategy, returning mixed-frequency ranges for any position and action.
